Welcome to DR Congo!

Democratic Republic of the Congo is the second largest country on the continent; only Algeria is larger. DRC is located in central Africa, with a 40km coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. Mostly landlocked, Congo is bounded to the north by the Central African Republic and South Soudan; to the east by Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania; to the southeast by Zambia; and to the southwest by Angola.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) experienced in 2020 its first recession in 18 years as a result of adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic across the world. The DRC s real GDP contracted by 1.7% in 2020 after increasing by 4.4% in 2019 and 5.8% in 2018. This reflects, first, the slowdown in the extractive industries because their contribution to growth decreased from 0.28% in 2019 to 0.17% in 2020.
